Gustafson hearing outcome still to be determined

Posted: 1/26/05

From staff reports

A hearing Tuesday to determine whether or not Chisago County Commissioner Bob Gustafson broke campaign laws resulted in no immediate outcome.

OAH Staff attorney Mary Beth Gossman told the Post Review in a phone call Tuesday that it would take two weeks before the judgesí decision would be announced.

The hearing, which was held at the Office of Administrative Hearings in Minneapolis, is a result of a complaint filed against Gustafson by Curt Flug, Gustafsonís opponent in the 2004 election. Flug alleged, in his complaint, that Gustafson was untruthful during the 2004 campaign.

Flug alleges in his complaint that despite Gustafsonís claims during the campaign that he was a ìspecial officerî with the St. Paul Police Department, the Department of Public Safety has no record of Gustafson ever having been a police officer.

Also in the complaint, Flug takes issue with Gustafson claiming he was appointed to the State Fraud Investigators Association. He said such a claim is false because there are no records of the organization ever existing.

Flug also alleges in his complaint that Gustafsonís statement that he is a volunteer director of the Chisago County Recreation Program is false. He said that the organization is a private, for-profit company operated by Gustafson and his wife.
