Parks thank volunteers

To the editor:

Chisago County Park Board and Commissioners express gratitude for volunteers that have assisted in providing great parks and trails in Chisago County in 2004.

Park Board members and County Commissioners express their appreciation to Dennis Frandsen for his continued support with the improvements at the Frandsen County Park on the north end of Rush Lake. We recently completed the grading for two parking areas. Mr. Frandsen contributed class 5 base material for the parking lots. We estimate there was over 720 C.Y. hauled and placed on Nov. 30, 2004. We plan to complete additional improvements that are outlined in a Phase 1 development plan in 2005.

Park Board members and Commissioners wish to express their appreciation to the North Branch Volunteer Fire Department and Chief Don Brown for assistance with the removal of an abandoned house considered to be a health hazard near Checkerboard Park.

They also expressed their thanks and appreciation to Dan Nesgoda, the Minnesota State Department of Corrections and the ìSentence to Serveî participants for their role in parks operation and maintenance. A few recent projects that come to mind, include, the site clean up of the abandoned house adjacent to Checkerboard Park, clearing of the initial segments of the Swedish Immigrant Trail, river bank stabilization at Kost Dam Park, and the continual task of regular park and trail greens keeping.

The Park Board and Commissioners thank the many individuals that continue to volunteer their time to promote the Swedish Immigrant Trail. A trail that we hope will one day join the cities of Wyoming, Chisago City, Lindstrom, Center City, Shafer and Taylors Falls. Thank you to Foundation President Joe Sausen, Executive Director Laird Mork, Treasurer Wilton Johnson, board members Rollie Westman, Bill and Mary Mobeck, Jane Wahutka, Dan Green, Edmund Olson. Thank you also to Holly Larson with the National Park Service for continued assistance with the Swedish Immigrant Trail.

If others are interested in sharing their time or talents to saving green spaces, improving Parks and trails in Chisago County, we invite you to contact Larid Mork with Chisago County Parks at (651) 674-2345 in 2005. Thank you all and have a Happy New Year.

Laird Mork
Chisago Co. Park Director
