TO THE EDITOR:
It filled me with frustration to read your report of the last meeting of the North Branch City Council regarding the rezoning of the present Green Acres property. It appears that some of the council members do no realize that the sale of this property and the building of a new care facility are absolutely dependent on one another. If the property is not sold, the new care facility cannot be built and that would be a tremendous loss to our community. As the council well knows, there is no ěfreeî money out there, and we know that senior care has not received the attention it deserves from other levels of government despite the efforts of advocacy groups.
The ongoing commitment and foresight of the county board of commissioners, working in partnership with Ecumen and the local advisory board, to provide for long-term, high-quality care should be applauded and supported.
For almost a hundred years, cooperation and planning have provided high-quality care for North Branch area residents, our friends, our neighbors and our family members right here where theyíve lived and given so much.
The council has the opportunity to continue this commitment for the next hundred years. I hope they have the wisdom to do so.
