It was announced at the Monday night Rush City Council meeting that new firefighters in the Rush City Fire Department will have pagers thanks to a $1,425 grant from Lake State Federal Credit Union.

The money was made available to the firefighters through the credit unionís Community Improvement Fund.

Also at the meeting the council voted unanimously to approve the preliminary plat for the Rush Creek Estates Development.

The development project is intended to occupy approximately 64 acres of land located east of Hwy. 361 and north of CR-55 in Rush City.

A preliminary plat for the proposed development was reviewed by the Planning Commission at its June 1 meeting. The plat includes 155 single-family residential lots. Development of the site will include construction of street connections to Hwy. 361 and CR-55, extension of public and private utilities (such as, sanitary sewer, water and gas), installation of 3.6 acres of storm water ponds and site grading.

Initial site grading and construction is anticipated to commence this summer.

In addition, at the meeting the council approved about $115,000 in bills, including about $18,000 in mechanical updates to the St. Croix Regional Education District building. The updates cover heating and cooling systems. City administrator Daniel Hoffman said the process usually is that the city pays and then they are reimbursed.

The developer, Dan Birdsall, is required to disclose to future buyers that the property is adjacent to a municipal airport and that the lots may be subject to noise and overhead flights.
