ìLaura Backus, a 6th-grade student at NB Middle School, competed for the 2005 Miss National Pre-Teen Minnesota pageant May 27-29, at Kelly Inn in St. Cloud. For the finals she was escorted by her grandfather, Reno Backus.

Laura won first runner-up and is eligible to compete for the National Princess Title held in Orlando, FL Nov. 19-27. Laura also won first in the gown/poise segment, second in the interview, second with her speech about ìWhat is Patriotism,î and won for the best ìLetter of Appreciation,î for her sponsor. She also won the ìScholarship America Award,î for Miss Minnesota National Pre-Teen.
