Divided people may figure it out

TO THE EDITOR:

Karl Rove, the architect of modern divide and conquer politics, was recently in Minnesota sizing up our Governor. Admiring Pawlentyís honed political speak from years in the state legislature, his Evangelical Christian ìstrategyî and the pocket books of his wealthy friends at the Tax Payers League.Ý

Does this Minnesota Republican have what it takes to be President?
ÝÝÝÝÝÝÝÝÝÝ
The Governor, who won with 44 percent of the vote, has single-handedly been holding our political process hostage to ìhisî tax pledge, the power of ìhisî pen to veto and his own ambitions. Ý

Telling our duly elected representatives to ìget the job done!î while re-inventing the definition of the word ìfee.î Not exactly being an honest broker.

But there is a method to his madness. The Governor has put us and our legislators at odds for a reason. It is the same purpose for which men have through the ages - personal ambition.

Yet there was a noticeably clumsy manner in which Gov. Pawlenty demonstrated his resolve at his staged ìvetoî ceremony.

Is the Governor attempting to ransom the future of our state as a dowry to Karl Rove and the Presidency? And are the high stakes of this political gamble with our stateís future causing him to pause? As an Evangelical Christian, Iíd like to think so.

There is a risk, of course, with any ìdivide and conquerî strategy. The people being divided may finally figure it out. And indeed, some wiser Republicans have done just that.
