Rush City Baseball: Tigers rally past Braham

By Cynthia Scott

A seven-run sixth inning salvaged the season for Rush City last Thursday, as the Tigers rallied to defeat the Braham Bombers 8-5 in a rain-soaked subsection quarterfinal at home.

The Tigers advanced to play the 16-4 DeLaSalle Islanders in Minneapolis on Tuesday, May 31 in the sectional final. The Islanders took a seven game win streak into that contest. Results were not available as this issue went to press.

The Bombers pounced all over pitcher John Bosman and a flustered defense to start the game, and by the time the Tigers came to bat in the first inning, they were already behind 3-0. But Bosman settled downóas did the weather, which forced two rain delaysóand held the Bombers at bay, allowing a run in the third and fourth innings.

The Tigers finally got on the board in the fifth inning when Adam Best singled in Tony Webb, who had reached on a fielder's choice and advanced on a wild pitch.

The offense came alive in the sixth, and was aided by Braham's mistakes. Bosman walked and scored on a home run to left field by Dan Gamache. Brad Carlson singled and moved to second on a bunt single by Adam Risland. Jake Bosman grounded to third, but the throw to second went into right field, allowing Carlson to score. Josh Ehrreich then singled to left, scoring Risland, and Best singled to score Jake Bosman. John Bosman then walked to load the bases, and Ehrreich and Best scored on consecutive wild pitches.

"We could have thrown in the towel after the first inning because we played poorly early in the game, but we kept hanging around until we scored some runs," said Coach Bob Schlagel. "We are very happy with the way the kids hung in there. You never know what can happen in the game of baseball."

John Bosman went seven innings and picked up the win. He gave up seven hits, walked one and struck out three.
The Tigers are 15-5 overall.
