North Branch heads into section competition this week after claiming yet another first place finish in its final meet of the season.
The boys' team finished first in its eight-team home invitational on May 26, while the girls placed third. Both teams compete in section prelims on Wednesday and in the finals on Saturday. Both sectional meets are in Cambridge.

Seniors Billy Oehlers, Joe Lofboom and Al Moore claimed first place finishes in the shot put, pole vault and high jump respectively.
For the girls, sophomore Tess Prouty-Kunshier placed first in the 400m dash and senior Jenny Anderson won the 100m hurdles.
Team results, boys: North Branch 155; Spring Lake Park/St. Anthony 133; Chisago Lakes 115.5; Cambridge-Isanti 85; Hibbing 76.5; Princeton 62.5; St. Michael-Albertville (STMA) 57.5; Rush City 13.

Team results, girls: Cambridge-Isanti 157; STMA 118; North Branch 117; Spring Lake Park/St. Anthony 89.5; Hibbing 75; Princeton 51; Chisago Lakes 38.5; Rush City 15.

Both the boys' and girls' teams enter sectional competition with several achievements under their belts. The girls won the Rum River conference title earlier this month while the boys finished in second place. Senior Joe Lofboom set a new conference record in the pole vault with a jump of 14'1".

In addition, both teams won their True Team sectional meets and competed at the True Team State Meet in Blaine on May 21. At that meet, three individuals won state championships: Anderson in the 100m hurdles, Oehlers in the shot put, Moore in the high jump, the boys' 4x800 relay team.

The upcoming sectional competition is sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League and will determine who advances to the state track meet June 10-11 in St. Paul.
