Relay team sets new school record

Posted: 6/8/05

One eight-hundredth of a second made the difference between a nice day and a great day for the boys' 4x800 relay team. That was the margin that Chad Karlsson, Justin Jacobson, Matt Wuorinen and Josh Dahl shaved off the old school record to establish a new one of 8:54.19 Saturday at the section 4A track and field meet in St. Paul.

"Now that's the way to end your high school career," said a beaming Karlsson, who graduated on Sunday.

The old school record of 8:54.27 fell on a day where athletes from the 32 participating schools competed with the weather as much as with themselves and each other. Intermittent downpours alternated with sunshine and humidity throughout the day to make conditions unpredictable and sometimes dicey.

No one from Rush City qualified for this week's state meet. Christine Frandsen narrowly missed in the 1600m run, placing third. The top two finishers qualified in that race. Frandsen finished fourth in the 800m. Some of the other
Tiger participants are pictured below.
