The Great River Conference recognized Adam Best's dominating season last week by naming him the conference's Most Valuable Player.

Best, a junior pitcher/shortstop, hit .485 during the conference season, connecting for 16 hits in 33 at bats. As a pitcher, he had a perfect 5-0 record with a 2.96 ERA, 6 walks and 35 strikeouts.

Others named to the all-conference team were seniors Dan Gamache and John Bosman; junior Brad Carlson; and sophomore Josh Ehrreich. Senior Tony Webb received honorable mention.

The Tigers ended the season with a 3-2 loss to DeLaSalle in the 4AA north subsection semi-finals on May 31 at the University of Minnesota's Siebert Field.. DeLaSalle was state ranked and will play Holy Family Catholic for the section title this week.

"The game was a great game to be associated with even though we lost. I am very proud of the way our kids battled the entire game. They never quit. They played with a lot of heart," said Coach Bob Schlagel.

All three DeLaSalle runs were unearned. Senior John Bosman pitched the entire game, giving up four hits, walking two and striking out six. Dan Gamache had a triple and 1RBI.

The Tigers finish the season sharing the conference title with Aitkin with a record of 8-2 in the GRC and 15-6 overall.
