Tigers will face Braham

The Rush City Tigers ended their season on Feb. 25 with a 66-37 loss to conference foe Aitkin at Aitkin.

Earlier in the week the Tigers fell to St. John's Prep at home, 74-51.

The Tigers started strong against Aitkin, pulling out to a 14-13 lead at the end of one quarter. But the offensive punch dried up in the middle of the second quarter and Aitkin took a 21-32 lead into halftime.

The offense never returned, and the Tigers made only five field goals the rest of the game.

"The kids played hard the entire game, but when you struggle offensively the scoreboard doesn't usually favor you," said Coach Gary Dreissig.

The St. John's game was decided on field goal percentage, according to Dreissig.

"All other statistics were basically even except St. John's made 31 field goals to our 19," he said.

The Tigers actually put in one of their most consistent offensive games of the season, scoring 10, 14, 13, and 14 points respectively each quarter.

The Tigers finish last place in the Great River Conference with a record of 3-10 and 4-16 overall. They face #1 seed and defending state champion Braham in the sectional tournament on Thursday, Mar. 3, 7:30 p.m. at Braham.

Other sectional pairings are #7 Foley at #2 Pierz; #6 East Central at #3 Mora; #6 Pine City at #5 Hinckley.
