North Branch boys basketball bounced in quarterfinal

North Branch's scrappy and aggressive defensive play kept Fridley on its toes but was unable to overcome the Tigers' height advantage in a 57-39 loss in sectional play Mar. 4.

Fridley's 6'8" center Stashie Mack scored the Tigers' first 19 points before North Branch's defense came to life and the offense made a strong run. Fridley boasts another 6'8" player in forward Steven Farmer.

The final score did not tell the tale of the game, however, as the Vikings were fired up and competitive through all four quarters, forcing 14 turnovers and at times flustering Fridley's offense.

Matt Warren led the Vikings in scoring with 19 points and 5 rebounds.

The Vikings end the season, their last in the Rum River Conference, with a record of 10-14. They won five of their last eight games, including a 54-48 win on Feb. 28 over North Suburban foe St. Francis. Next year the Vikings move to the North Suburban Conference.
