NB girls golf drop RRC match

Take on conference power Milaca this week

Posted: 5/11/05

North Branch girls' golf suffered their first defeat in a Rum River Conference contest at Foley last Wednesday, narrowly falling 204-208.

Lacee Scherer led the Vikings with 50, followed by Hope Chenevert and Amy Aho, who each shot 51, and Katie Foley at 56. Chenevert's 51 was her all-time best.

Coach Dave Ambers said the highlight of the day was Katie Foley's continued improvement and Chenevert's new personal best.
On May 5 the Vikings participated in the Milaca Invitational on a day that started out with pleasant weather conditions but gradually gave way to clouds, wind gusts and rain.

Milaca won the event, led by their two outstanding seniors, Lacey Hoeck and Erin Rice. Hoeck shot 87 and Rice 90.
The Vikings will have another go at Milaca this Thursday, when the Wolves travel to North Branch for a 4:15 p.m. match.

Team standings at the Milaca Invitational were:
Milaca, 372; Princeton, 412; North Branch, 422; Pine City, 430; Foley, 432; Chisago Lakes, 439; St. Michael-Albertville, 442; Mora, 469; Big Lake, 499.

Scherer shot a 93, good enough for the third place medal. Other scores for the Vikings were Aho and Kelsey Johnson, 105; Jeni Farr, 119; Kelsey Perreault, 123.

Coach Dave Ambers is encouraged by his young team's performance on the season.

"Obviously, Milaca is the best team in our conference, but we feel we have the ability to compete with anyone else in the Rum River."
Up next: May 12 v. Milaca at North Branch Golf Course, 4:15 p.m.; May 16 at Chisago Lakes, 3:45 p.m.; May 18, RRC meet @ NB Golf Course, 9 a.m
