May is National Community Action Month

Posted: 5/17/05

As a part of the 1,000-member Community Action Agency network across the nation, the board, staff, partners and volunteers of Lakes and Pines Community Action Council, Inc., are guided by the Promise of Community Action: to help low-income people and change lives. They take this promise very seriously and apply it as they work with east central Minnesotaís lower-income residents.
Lakes and Pines Community Action Council, Inc. is very proud of its track record living by the Promise and celebrates 40 years of service in 2005. The agency serves the counties of Aitkin, Carlton, Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs and Pine.

ìWe are extremely proud of the work weíve done helping low-income residents become self-sufficient and each day there is a success story taking place that underscores how hard our program participants, staff, partners and volunteers all work together,î said Lakes and Pines executive director Roger Corbin.

ìBut because resources are limited and budgets have not increased to match the demand for services, Lakes and Pines CAC and Community Action Agencies across the country rely on partners, such as you, in order to effectively carry out the promise. Our partners are concerned about the community and have put forth a tremendous effort to help us carry out our Missionî said Corbin. ìYour partnership and support continue to be critical now as poverty rates soar and there is an increased demand for services.î Thank you for your partnership in Community Action.

The Community Action Partnership national office established National Community Action Month to recognize Community Action Agenciesí (CAAs) efforts to improve their communities. It is a time to highlight poverty-related problems and to encourage all Americans to unite against poverty.
