Through a partnership with the AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) program, the Initiative Foundation will offer a total of 19 paid community service opportunities in central Minnesota.
AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program similar to the Peace Corps. It places volunteers in U.S. nonprofit organizations to help bring individuals and communities out of poverty.Ý
In central Minnesota, the Initiative Foundation is seeking VISTAs for several faith-based organizations. In these programs, VISTAs recruit and match volunteers with those needing minor home repairs, respite care, friendly visitation, telephone reassurance and transportation. Other positions focus on developing financial literacy and entrepreneurial opportunities, expanding services for refugees, and coordinating services for combating homelessness.
The foundation is also seeking an AmeriCorps VISTA lead coordinator position, which requires prior VISTA or Peace Corps experience.
Although the program is coordinated by the Initiative Foundation, each nonprofit organization interviews and selects its own VISTA who must commit to a one-year community service leadership position. Compensation includes training, a monthly living stipend of $840, health insurance, and a $4,725 education award or end-of-service stipend of $1,200.Ý
Interested persons are encouraged to visit the Initiative Foundationís web site, www.ifound.org. For more information, contact Chris Fastner at (877) 632-9255 toll-free or cfastner@ifound.org.
Applications are due June 1.
