He was in perfect health, ìhealthy as a horse,î said mom, Therese Meyer. His life was full of adventure, music and spending time with family and friends ñ and now heís gone.
Eliís mother says the family, his dad, Randy, sister, Portia, and herself are still kind of numb.
Eliís sudden death last week after his first wrestling practice was a shock. It wonít be for a couple of weeks before they have the final results of the autopsy, but Eliís death is being considered natural causes.
Eli had a life full of interests, his mom said, music being a favorite.
At home he played the electric and acoustic guitar. In Blaine, where they lived before coming to the North Branch area two years ago, Eli played the trumpet, baritone and tuba in school.
At NBHS he sang in the choir.
He loved video games and drawing. He was always doodling, his mother said. In fact, most recently he started to dream about becoming either a cartoonist or graphic artist for video games.
He enjoyed fishing, too, but mostly if the fishing was good. Sitting around waiting for the fish to bite was a bit boring. But on a family trip to Cancun he caught a huge Mahi Mahi which he was excited about.
And more recently he had a good fishing outing closer to home with an aunt.
There is one more being mourning his absence this week, Xena, Eliís dog, a German shorthair pointer.
Therese said Xena knew from the beginning something was wrong.
The dog last saw her young master get on the school bus, but he never returned. In her own way the dog cried for the young boy, too.
Not knowing why Eli has never gotten back off that bus, Xena recently tried to get on to look for him herself.
Eli is missed by many.
