Virginia May Albert, the daughter of Albert and May Olson was born July 29, 1919 at Hugo, Minn. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the First Lutheran Church in White Bear, Minn.
Virginia attended elementary school in Hugo and was 14 years of age when she moved with her family to a farm near Rush City, Minn. She then attended Rush City High School and graduated with her class in 1937.
She then worked in the Twin City area for few years, and in 1939 was employed as an attendant/practical nurse at the Anoka State Hospital. With the outbreak of World War II she worked at the Twin Cities Ordnance Plant in New Brighton, Minn., and in 1943 became a member of the United States Nurses Cadet Corps program for training nurses at the Hamlin-Asbury School of Nursing. She graduated as a registered nurse in 1943.
In the early 1950ís she moved to Pasadena, Calif. where she continued her nursing career. A few years later she returned to Minnesota, but again moved to California where she worked as a civilian employee for the United States Navy.
She retired in November of 1976, following 24 years of service.
While working for the Navy, Virginia met her co-worker and future husband, Orrin Albert. They were married on Jan. 24, 1970 and made their first home in Pasadena. Later they lived in La Jolla for a short time prior to purchasing their home in Escondido, Calif.
Virginia died in Escondido on Oct. 20, 2005, having reach-ed the age of 86 years.
She is survived by her husband, Orrin; stepdaughter, Kathy Reid; granddaughter, Dawn Noel, stepson, Michael Albert; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Frances Olson of Rush City and Albert and Donna Olson of
Minnetonka, Minn.; sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Robert
McShannock of St. Paul, Minn.; sister-in-law, Isabel Olson of England; several nieces and nephews. Virginia was preceded in death by her sister, Helen G. Olson, and her brother, Robert W. Olson.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rush City with the Reverend Laurie OíShea officiating. Music for the service will be provided by Marlys Olson, Erica Bennett, and Doris Swanson. The casket bearers will be David Olson, Kevin Raden, Bob
Swanson, John McShannock, Don Kelly, and Wilfrid Anderson with interment in the First Lutheran Cemetery at Rush City.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Funeral & Cremation Service, Olson Chapel, Rush City.
