Rush City concluded a solid year of cross country competition on Oct. 27 in Cloquet, where the girls team placed 5th and the boys placed 9th at the section 7A meet.
Senior captain Becky Kemen led the girls team with a strong time of 17:05, placing 21st. Laura Hestbeck hung on to Kemenís pace, finishing right behind her at 22nd. Amber Hoffman ran her best race of the year, finishing in 17:48.
ìWe were happy with our results. Only a few places could have put us in 4th place,î said Coach Kevin Smith.
Josh Dahl led the boys at 17:29, good for 12th place. The top 10 runners qualified for state.
ìThis was a good year with a nice group of kids. We could not have had better attitudesójust terrific. Next year we need more people to create competition within the team,î said Coach Kevin Smith.
Smith said the team will miss its two seniors, Lance Peterson and Matt Wuorinen. ìThey are very hard workers and great teammates for the underclassmen,î he said.
