Years in the community:ÝI have lived in the community for 3 years. I am a native Minnesotan, and have lived in Minnesota on and off for nearly 30 years.

Occupation: I work in Technical Service.

Family: I am married and have two high school students at Rush City High School.

Education: I have a BS in biology from the University of Minnesota and a PhD from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Elective offices held and Experience:Ý I have served on the Rush City Schoolís Board Advisory Committee for the last three years.Ý I served over seven years on a school board in rural Montana.

1) Why are you running for a seat on the school board?

I would like to help the Rush City SchoolÝ District provide the highest quality education possible.

2) What do you see as the role of the school board and the school board member? Do you have the time to commit to the position?

The School Board needs to be involved in setting goals and policy for the district, with the expert advise of the administration. As a school board member, I will take very seriously the fiscal responsibility to the taxpayers of our district. I will try to involve teachers, parents and community members in helping accomplish goals and diagnosing problems in the district.Ý

I will commit the time to listen and learn what is needed, to address theÝ issues of our district.

3) What does the Rush City School District look like to you today? Where do you see the school district 10-20 years from now?

The Rush City School District is doing an excellent job of planning for the future. I see the district continuing to grow and change to meet the needs of the students and community.

4) Do you think it is useful to track students after graduation to see if they received the training they needed here in Rush City to help them with post graduate and future employment endeavors? Do you think a school district should be largely responsible for preparing students for life in the ìrealî world?

Yes, I think interviewing students post graduation would be useful in helping evaluate if the district is meeting the needs of all students. I think that parents and schools share in the responsibility of preparing students for life.Ý The district should try and meet the needs of students in a variety of career paths.

5) What is the most unique aspect (or greatest asset) of the Rush City School District that sets it apart from other districts. What are other strengths within the district?

I think one of the greatest strengths of the Rush City School District is the dedicated staff, havingÝ teachers who care about their students. Also the strength of the district comes from theÝ community of Rush City and the quality and character of its citizens.

6) Finally, do you see areas that need improvement? What are they and how do you think improvement might be accomplished?

I think the district can always strive harder to meet the needs of every student. I hope to communicate with parents and teachers to learn their ideas to create avenues for all students to find challenge and achieve excellence.
