At its meeting on Monday Oct. 24, the Rush City Council approved the formation of an Economic Development Association at the behest of County HRA-EDA Executive Director Chris Eng.
According to Eng, Rush City has a great deal of potential and a lot to look forward to if it can create a group to focus on developing and marketing the 72 acre site that already exists for commercial and industrial development.
ěThis should get them rolling,î said Eng, who noted Tuesday that an EDA can be helpful in planning for development, coordinating infrastructure construction, and marketing to businesses looking for a home.
The EDA will be tasked with enhancing Rush Cityís already strong showing in the county, in the area commercial and industrial development. Of the 10 cities located in the county, Rush City has the highest percentage of commercial/industrial development, with 22.3 percent as of 2004. Stacy is second with 21.5 percent, followed by Wyoming with 16.4 percent.
The city council also appointed Mayor Mike Skalsky and council member Mick Louzek to seek a replacement to fill the seat left vacant by Bill Schneider, who passed away on Oct. 19. They are expected to report any progress at the next meeting of the city council, on Nov. 14.
