North Branch freshman wrestler Eli Meyer died on the evening of Nov. 8 following his collapse shortly after a captainís practice at the high school. His collapse occurred at the high school shortly after 6 p.m.

According to Aarron Reinert, Executive Director of Lakes Region EMS, paramedics received the call at 6:14 p.m. Upon arrival at 6:21, Meyer was already receiving treatment in the form of CPR and also through the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) from North Branch police officer Scott Fitzgerald, who arrived within minutes of the 911 call.

Paramedics and EMTís attempted to stabilize Meyer until 6:47, at which time he was transported to Fairview hospital in Wyoming. Reinert explained that stabilizing on site is procedural in a case like this. ìWe can offer the same kind of procedures that he would receive at the hospital,î he said, including advanced cardiac life support, medications, and airway attention.

These procedures were continued until Meyer reached Fairview at 7:01 p.m. It remains unclear when Meyer was pronounced dead by medical personnel.

The North Branch school district is reporting that grief counselors are present at the high school today to assist students with the grieving process.
