As of Oct. 1, Family Pathways has added a technology center to its facility in Stacy, which is now known as the Family Pathways Child Care Center and Student Technology Center.

In order to introduce the new facility to area parents, Stacy Coordinator for Family Pathways Liz Esther is holding a Halloween party for 11 to 15-year-olds from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 26. Dinner and activities will be included.

The new facility boasts six computer stations complete with internet access, a host of software packages and, of course, some games as well. Pre-teen and teenage students are welcome to utilize the center for homework assignments, general research, or simply to familiarize themselves with computers.

The technology center's hours are designed to accommodate families in the after-school hours. It is open from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Mon., Wed., Thurs., and Fri., as well as noon to 8 p.m. on Sat., and Sun. Adult trainers are available during those hours of operation to help kids with homework or learn to navigate computers.

The technology center also creates a unique opportunity for the child care center, allowing younger children to get a head start on computer skills before starting school. "It's an avenue for kids to become computer savvy," explained Esther.

Family Pathways has plans to expand the facility in the coming months. Esther hopes to include graphic software packages, offer help with the completion of resumes, and expand to include some adult education in the near future.

"This is an opportunity with pre-schoolers and teens to offer something to the community, to help them out. Our goal is to work hand in hand with families," said Esther.

The center is located at 5505 Stacy Trail, on the southwest corner of the intersection of I-35 and CR-19, just to the east of the Sunrise Market in Stacy.
