The doubles team of Amber Heilig and Kelsey O'Hern and singles player Katelyn Rollins came away from the North Suburban tennis tourney with medals on Sat. Oct. 1.
Heilig and OíHern lost in the finals to Benilde-St. Margaret's, taking it to a tie-breaker in the first set and losing the second 3-6.
Coach Kristin Unverzagt said the match was the best that Heilig and O'Hern have played as a duo. ěThe shot selection and aggressive net play kept their opponents on their feet and forced them to make quality shots,î Unverzagt said.
Rollins took the consolation championship for second singles. Danielle Sonnenfeld lost a heartbreaker to Chisago Lakes in the consolation round, 15-17. Second doubles, Amanda Johnson and Robyn Rodrigue, lost in the semi-finals to Benilde-St. Margaret's after winning their opener against St. Francis.
Third doubles, Jeni Farr and Stephanie Gunnink, lost in the consolation championship in a tie breaker.
Third singles, Michelle Scribner, also made it to the consolation finals. Sara Fletcher played fourth singles and lost in the first and second round with close matches. Her second match went to a tie breaker, but she could not hold on.
The tennis team closed out its season on Monday, Oct. 3 with a home match against Cambridge-Isanti.

Sonnenfeld, 1st singles: 0-6, 6-2, 6-7; Rollins, 2nd singles: 6-2, 7-5; Scribner, 3rd singles: 6-2, 6-1; Fletcher, 4th singles: 6-4, 6-4; Heilig/OíHern, 1st doubles: 6-1, 6-3; Johnson/Rodrigue, 2nd doubles: 3-6, 2-6; Gunnink/Farr, 3rd doubles: 2-6, 6-4, 6-7; Crystal Miller/ Katie Wicklund, exhibition doubles: 6-0, 6-1.
Seeding for the section tournament is this Thursday. Unverzagt said she expects her team to play on Friday depending on the seeding.
