East Central thumps Tigers 41-21

The Rush City Tigers dropped their conference opener on Sept. 9 with a 41-21 drubbing at the hands of Great River Conference powerhouse East Central Eagles.

East Central took a 14-0 lead into halftime. They added another TD in the third quarter to make it 21-0 before Rush City got on the board behind a 10 yard MacKenzie Johnston run. Jeff Jennings ran in the 2-point conversion to make it 21-8.

The Tigers played the Eagles close in the fourth quarter, putting up 15 points to the Eagles 20. Tiger scoring came on a 24 yard catch and run from Jacob Bosman to Adam Best and a 1 yard run by Bosman. That followed a 25 yard strike to Jennings, which put the ball at the 1 yard line.

Two fumbles and three interceptions added to the Tigers' woes.

Offensive leaders for the Tigers were Bosman, who was 15 of 32 for 204 yards and 1 touchdown; Best, with 8 receptions for 117 yards and 1 touchdown; Jennings with 2 receptions for 33 yards; and Joe Hophan, who had two receptions for 31 yards. Bosman led the rushing game with four carries for 19 yards. Johnston and James Warfield had 2 and 3 carries, respectively, for 5 yards each.
Jerred Nelson led the team defensively with 5 solo tackles and 6 assists. Jeremy Marty had 3 solos and 10 assists while Andy Anderson made 2 solos and 7 assists and Adam Morris 4 solos and 4 assists.
Up next: Hinckley-Finlayson

This Friday at 7 p.m. the Tigers host the 2-0 Hinckley-Finlayson Jaguars in the 2005 Homecoming game.
The Jaguars feature two all-conference players in running back Tim Taggart and linebacker Dave Lewis.
"It will be a very tough game. We will have to stop Taggart," said Coach Gary Wendorf.
