TO THE EDITOR:
In looking through the roll call vote to establish a congressional commission to examine the federal, state, and local response to the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina, I was shocked to see that every single Republican in the U.S. Senate voted no ñ that is, they voted against a commission.
Given the split nature of the vote, I have to assume that finding out what went wrong is somehow a partisan issue. Why? This isnít some goofy conspiracy theory or fishing expedition. Look at the death and destruction ñ a great deal clearly went wrong!
I think we need to understand what went wrong to assure it doesnít happen again. Congress needs to remember that, regardless of party affiliation, they are charged with serving all of their constituents. Those who voted no should be ashamed ñ they put partisanship before the lives and deaths of those they are charged with serving.
