North Branch and Almelund fire departments are the recipients of Department of Homeland Security Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety grants.
Congressman James Oberstar made the announcement last week. Almelund Fire and Rescue has been awarded $162,706 and the North Branch Fire Department will receive $106,650.
The Almelund department will use the money to purchase 20 self-contained breathing apparatus, along with 32 sets of fire fighting gear.
According to Assistant Fire Chief Richard Wagner, they will also use some of the money to purchase an air compressor system for refilling air bottles.
The North Branch department will use the funding to purchase self-contained breathing apparatus also.
