The North Branch boys' soccer team won its first game of the season in a home match against the Zimmerman Thunder. The Vikings narrowly lost to the Thunder 0-1 on Aug. 30.
The Thunder scored first, putting the Vikes behind the 8-ball. After a penalty was called in the box, Vikings senior captain Matt Jorgenson was called upon to take the penalty kick and tie the game. From that point on it was all North Branch, as Vikings middle schooler Brian Grand took a break away the distance to make the score 2-1. In the second half, Jorgenson netted another goal to make the final score 3-1.
"The guys have worked hard all season and really enjoyed beating a tough Zimmerman team. We talk about hard work beating talent when talent doesn't work hard. Last night the guys worked hard and beat a team that came out and scored first on us. I love the attitude and fight the guys displayed!" said Coach Brad Gustafson.
