TO THE EDITOR:
I would like to congratulate the city council for making the decision to post signage at the North Branch schools NOT to prohibit dogs on the school property but to remind owners to leash and clean up after your pet. This is a refreshing trend as most cities just ban pets from school grounds and citizens have no say in the matter. I do use the grounds to exercise my lab and appreciate officials not just going with the flow and outright banning use of a property the taxpayers support.
Too bad the signs had to be posted at all as owners should use common sense but at least it is a gentle reminder that these areas are for public use and it is up to the pet owners to make sure this resource stays available.
