Down 0-2 and teetering on the brink of defeat, the Rush City Tigers found their rhythm just in time to put together 3 straight wins to defeat Pine City 3-2 on Sept. 13.
And then they did the exact same thing two nights later against rival Braham. The Tigers took to the court sluggish and uninspired. But midway through the third set, they found their game.
ìWe started out playing just terrible, but the girls stuck it out and ended up winning the last three games,î said Coach Eric Telander following the Braham tilt.
Matches against Pine City were close, with the Tigers taking it on the chin 24-26 and 26-28 before coming out on top 26-24, 25-15 and 15-11.
Liz Melin went 14-16 serving with 5 kills and 4 blocks and Kacie Vold had 8 kills.
The Tigers were not competitive in their first two matches against Braham, losing 9-25 and 18-25. But once again they turned a corner in game 3, winning 25-11 and taking the final two matches 25-17 and 15-11.
Bethany Peters came up big against Braham, going 17-17 serving with four aces. Gillian Calander was 12-15 serving.
ìWe have had two slow starts in a row, but the girls dug deep,î said Telander.
The Tigers are now 1-1 in the conference and 4-4 overall.
This week they travel to Onamia on Thursday and Ogilvie on Sept. 27. Both games are at 7:30 p.m.
