Becklin knocks in winning runs for Vikings

The North Branch baseball team won its season opener at home, beating Hermantown 2-1 on Saturday, April 1.
Senior captain Dominic Stahley was the opening day pitcher. Stahley pitched for five innings. The senior spread out five hits and four walks during his time on the mound.
ìHermantown started to catch him in the fourth,î said head coach Steve Christensen. ìBut he came back out in the fifth only needing to face four batters to get out of the inning.
Stahley was pulled from the game and captain Dan Gray took over in the sixth. However, Gray showed signs of arm troubles and was pulled from the game, Christensen said. Junior right-hander Chris Becklin quickly stepped in.
In the bottom of the sixth inning the Vikings were ready to attack, Christensen said. First, Marty Savage doubled down the left side line and than Stanley hit a ball between the legs of the shortstop into the outfield. With two outs, Chris Becklin stepped up to the plate and drove in the go ahead runs. North Branch defense prevailed in the seventh inning and the Vikings walked away with their first win of the season.
Christensen was happy with the win.
ìThis was a good win to earn, they are in our section,î he said. ìThese games add up for post season play.î
The Vikings play Thursday, April 13 at 4:45 p.m. against Spring Lake Park.

HEY THATS MY BROTHER!! That was a good game, but they were rippin' it off of Tony. But thats just cause they were good hitters and it was Tony's fist game pitchin' this year. He says hes still tight.

i think that the boys played a great game.But all they have to do is just keep working hard and (hold) their heads high, knowing that they're good they'll have a great season.
