Tigers lose opener but bounce back

The Tigers lost their season opener at home 5-1 against Barnum on Thursday, April 6. Senior Bobbi Cort pitched six innings, struck out four and give up seven hits in the losing effort.
Janet Kemen relieved Cort on the mound in the final inning while striking out two batters. Emily Grimes knocked in the lone run for the Tigers.
ìWe hit the ball well, but we seemed to hit it right to them,î head coach Kim Erdman said. ìWe had couple of lapses that cost us early in the game, but that will be improved upon. All said, I thought our girls played hard to the end ...î
On Friday April 7, Rush City hosted Carlton-Wrenshall for their second home game in two nights. The Tigers won the game 5-4 and earned their first victory of the season.
Janet Kemen pitched a complete game for the Tigers. She struck out 11 and did a wonderful job hitting the corners, Erdman said.
The Tigers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead. However, Carlton-Wrenshall countered and scored three runs in the top of the fourth. The Tigerís had an opportunity to create some space with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth but failed to capitalize. Eventually, the Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth for the win.
Bethany Peters and Kemen each had two hits.
ìI was proud of our girls perseverance,î Erdman said. ìWe could have gotten down on ourselves after a few mistakes in the fourth inning. However, the girls kept chipping away.î
