NB girls softball drop two at home
The North Branch softball team lost its opener against Irondale 2-0 on Thursday, April 6.
It was the first time the Vikings have played the Irondale Knights, head coach Larry Brodin said.
ìIt was a hard fought, tough game but the Vikes came up on the short end of a 2-0 score,î he said.
The Vikings struggled all game to get their bats going. They managed to get only two hits all game. Megan Ranger hit a single in the third inning and Ann Fortier hit a lead off single in the fifth.
ìFor our first game, it was ok,î Brodin said. ìWe were a bit tentative at the plate but that will improve.î
The Vikings did have some scoring opportunities but were unable to seize the moment. In the second inning they left the bases loaded.
Tiffany Good pitched the complete game for the Vikings. She struck out four and walked two in the outing.
As a whole the game was a good place to begin for Brodin.
ìIt was a good place to start and now we can go from here and work to get better every game,î Brodin said.
Following the loss to Irondale, the Vikings hosted Hermantown. They lost the game 9-1.
ìThe final score was not indicative of the game,î Brodin said. ìI thought we played a better game this time but the score doesnít show it.î
Steph Sax pitched the complete game for the Vikings. She gave up eight hits while recording five strike outs and three walks. Megan Ranger went two for three with an RBI.
ìHopefully we can find a way to put some runs across the plate,î Brodin said.
