The North Branch girlís golf team started its season with a win against conference foe Saint Francis on Thursday, April 13 in North Branch.

The Vikings recorded 210 strokes, compared to the Saints 230. Viking Junior Amy Aho was medalist for the meet.

Head coach Dave Ambers said she played a good, steady round of golf.

ìHer putting saved her on several occasions,î he said.

Preceding Aho with the lowest round was junior teammate Lacee Scherer, who recorded a 50.

ìScherer hit two balls out of bounds which contributed to two of her three sevens,î Ambers said. ìOutside of that, she carded nothing worse than a bogey.î

Hope Chenevert shot a 55, and Jeni Farr shot a 58.

Aho, Scherer, Chenevert and Farrís combined scored equaled 210.

Also helping out varsity were Kelsey Johnson and Katie Foley. However, both had some early season swing errors, Ambers said.

ìWhen they correct them, their scores will help North Branch record some lower scores.î

The girlís didnít skip a beat during their next meet against St. Louis Park April 17. They defeated the Orioles 204-229 at Theodore Wirth Park.

Scherer had the hot swing with a 44. She earned medalist honors. Aho shot second with a 49.

Ambers said Ahoís best shot of the day came on the sixth hole. With the Minneapolis skyline in the background, Aho struck her wedge approach shot from 100 yards out and landed within a few feet of the flag.

Ambers said eight grader Katie Foley had her best round of the season. Foley scored a 56.

ìHer play was more consistent ... ì

BOYS GOLF

The North Branch boyís golf team lost their first meet of the season by four strokes to Saint Francis Thursday, April 13 at home. As a team the Vikings shot a 169 compared to Saint Francis 165.

ìI was pleased with how we played,î head coach Tom Moriarty said. ìMy expectation was to break 170.î

Brad Peters shot the lowest with a 37. Travis Peterson shot a 44 and Jake Moosey shot a 45.

On Monday, April 17 the boys golf team played at the Minneapolis Golf Club against St. Louis Park. The Vikings lost 195-165. Once again, Peters was the low golfer with 50. Peterson, Moosey, all shot less than 50.

The Minneapolis Golf Course is full of hills, which proved to be a obstacle for the Vikings Moriarty said..

ìIt was a problem for them,î he said. ìOur scores were quite elevated.î

Charlie Haris was the low golfer for St. Louis Park. He shot a 40 on the day.
