The Vikings dropped two conference games in the second week of play. On Tuesday, April 11 they lost to the Saint Francis Saints at home 10-4.
The Vikings struggled to find a pitcher to get them through the game. Tony Dahlberg pitched four innings, giving up 10 hits and seven earned runs. Chris Becklin pitched two innings, giving up four hits and three runs and Greg Sederberg pitched an inning to end the game.
Most of the damage done to the Vikings came in the second inning when Saint Francis had five runners cross the plate.
The Vikings scored two runs in the fourth and fifth innings, but it was to little too late.
Steve Harvey, of Saint Francis, was the winning pitcher. Harvey pitched three innings and gave up three hits and struck out six.
ìWe had an opportunity when we closed it to 7-4, but their bats just came alive,î Christenson said.
Later in the week, the Vikings hosted Spring Lake Park Panthers and lost 3-5.
ìWe played real well, except for a few key plays,î head coach Steve Christenson said. ìAs a team, you have toÝtake it all in so you know how it feels to lose that way, and bounce back to make sure it doesnít happen again.î
The Vikings next game is Thursday, April 20 at home against Robbinsdale Copper. Following the game, the Vikings play six consecutive games on the road.
