The Tigers split two games in the second week of the season. On Monday April, 10 Rush City defeated Isle 5-6 at home.

The Tigers were down four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning before their bats caught fire and provided them with five runs. However, in the seventh Isle scored to tie the game at five. With the score at five apiece, senior Bobbi Cort displayed aggressive base running. On third base, she dashed home after the catcher overthrew the pitcher, beating the throw from the second baseman. The run propelled the Tigers victory.

Rush City had opportunities to pull away from Isle early in the game but made several inept base running decisions that kept them from scoring.

ìIn the second, third and fourth innings we had girls on third but couldnít knock them in,î head coach Kim Erdman said. ìThis is the second game in a row that we have come from behind in the late innings.î

Cort pitched the complete game striking out ten and walking four.

ìCort gave seven strong innings,î Erdman said.

Cort, Bethany Peters, and Charlene Hebert each had two hits for the Tigers.

On Tuesday, April 11 it took nine innings to decide the outcome of the conference matchup against East Central. At the end, the score resembled a monday night football game, not high school softball. Rush City came out on the short end of a 13-14 game.

ìThis is one of those games where you wish each team could go home with a win,î Erdman said.

Hitting wasnít the problem in the loss for the Tigers. The team had a total of 22 hits off a good pitcher. Each starter for the Tigers had at least one hit.

ìI am not sure we can hit the ball any better,î Erdman said.

Juniors Sammi Luckoff and Bethany Peters each had four hits. Laura Gamache, Cort and Amanda Lopez each had three hits apiece.

ìThey all worked hard, but hats off to the Eagles for taking advantage of a few mistakes.î

The Tigers play Braham on Thursday, April 20 and Grantsburg the following day.
