Itís almost cliche to suggest that a new business owner in town is realizing a lifeís dream. In the case of Sacred Grounds Espresso Cafe though, the sentiment is absolutely true. ěIíve been wanting to do this since I was 19,î said owner Susan Roemhild, a 12-year resident of Stacy.
So, following a four-year stint managing a similar business in Wyoming, Roemhild took the leap and dedicated herself to opening Stacyís newest coffee house.
Sacred Grounds combines an airy seating area with Tuscan design.
Leather couches flank a massive fireplace and mantel and a separate seating area, the Meeting Grounds, can be used for meetings or various family gatherings like birthday parties.
Not surprisingly, Sacred Grounds specializes in coffee. The menu contains classic espresso drinks, lattes, mochas, and cappuccinos. There is even a limited selection of fair-trade coffees for those who prefer to make a political statement with their beverage purchase.
For those who donít drink coffee there is a wide variety of options as well. All natural smoothies, freeze drinks called fredos, cocoa, cider, chai drinks, pixie matte, and teas round out the wide array of selections.
Those looking for something to dip will enjoy various sandwiches, salads, breakfast wraps, croissants, pastries, scones, cookies, and muffins, plus more.
But, while Roemhild is very excited about Sacred Groundsí menu, she is especially enamored with the atmosphere she has worked hard to create. ěI wanted a nice place with a warm atmosphere. I wanted it homey, a place where people can feel loved.î
If the many patrons in Sacred Grounds last Thursday are any indication, Roemhild has been successful. ěThe place looks greatî and ěthis is awesomeî were just a couple of comments passers by made to Roemhild during the interview.
Even the name, taken from a Bev Doolittle painting of the same name, attempts to set a mood. Roemhild has a large print of that painting ready for installation above the fireplace.
Aside from offering coffee and food, Roemhild has a plethora of board games and brain teasers available for patrons and plans to hold some special events like live music on Saturdays and ěsober karaoke,î on occasion.
On April 7-8, Roemhild will be holding a grand opening celebration. At that time there will be drawings, t-shirt giveaways, coffee giveaways, jewelry, and more. Roemhild is excited about this weekend and the future.
ěI am just honored to be able to do this, to serve my community in this way,î she said on Thursday.
