James ěJimî H. Smith

James ěJimî H. Smith, age 85, of North Branch, Minn., died on Aug. 16, 2006 at the Fairview Lakes Regional Medical Center in Wyoming, Minn.

Jim was born on Jan. 5, 1921 in Harris, Minn., to Fred and Bessie (Griffin) Smith. He attended high school in North Branch graduating in 1938. He then attended radio school at the University of Chicago. On June 28, 1947 he married Glennys Clover in Harris, Minn.

Jim worked as a state trooper for 20 years. Jim served in the Navy during WWII being discharged in 1945. He also served in the Army during the Korean War being discharged in 1952.

Jim was a member of Eastern Star and the Masons Chisago Lodge #232, the American Legion, serving as finance officer, and past grand marshal of the Midsummer days. Jim enjoyed all sports, especially the Twins and Vikings.

Jim is survived by wife Glennys, two daughters Nancy Ryan and Pam Goranson and husband John, two grandchildren Anne Ryan and Chris Ryan and wife Amy, brother Robert Smith and wife Pat, aunt Peggy Smith, cousins Karen Nelson and Judy Stake.

Rev. Loren Mellum officiated at the Memorial Service held on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2006 at Trinity Lutheran Church in North Branch, Minn.

Internment was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minn.
