Last week the Chisago County board considered membership on the joint powers Metropolitan Emergency Services Board (MESB). The cost to the county would be about $17,000 for 2007. The board oversees the new 800mhz radio system, 911 and data systems. Chisago County would have one vote on the board while all other members have two.
Commissioner Ben Montzka was concerned with the potential for Chisago County being bound to any multi-million project undertaken by the MESB. Commissioner Lynn Schultz asked about withdrawal from the MESB. She was told the MESB would have to vote on it. The members of the board include Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott, Washington counties and the city of Minneapolis. The county board did not act on the membership last week.
