Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Gene Merriam has named Laurie Martinson to be acting assistant commissioner, effective Aug. 14.

Martinson, an avid angler, novice hunter and well-respected outdoor enthusiast, temporarily fills the vacancy created when Brad Moore became acting commissioner of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.

Martinson worked closely with Moore when she was DNR field operations manager from 1999 to 2003. Martinson, who agreed to serve until a new assistant commissioner is named before Dec. 1.

Forrest Boe will serve as acting director of the DNR Trails and Waterways Division, Martinsonís current position since 2003. Boe, who is currently the Trails and Waterways field operations manager, has been with the DNR for 23 years. Boe has held a variety of positions in the Trails and Waterways Division, including regional manager in Bemidji and area supervisor in Brainerd.
