Rush City wins first two of season; both against conference teams
On opening night, the Rush City boys basketball team dominated a weak Ogilvie team in every category en route to a 98-52 win.
Jerred Nelson led the team in scoring with 29 points on 19 of 13 from the floor. Nelson also collected 10 rebounds on the night.
"It was an excellent opening game since we played as a team with 32 assists and good intensity," head coach Gary Dreissig said.
Everyone on the team played and 13 of 15 players scored points for the Tigers.
Defensively, Rush City held the Lions to 25 percent from the floor and forced 13 turnovers.
For their second game of the season the Tigers played East Central on Dec. 8 on the road and won 68-55.
Jake Bosman and Andy Erickson were the leading scorers with 16 points apiece.
Blue and gold was able to build a 14-point lead in the first half but the Eagles rallied late in the first half and entered the locker room down five.
The Tigers were able to keep the eagles at bay until about five minutes left in the game when East Central tied the game at 55. Rush City, however, had other things in mind than a loss in the conference and held off a final East Central attack. The Tigers went on a 13-1 run in the final minutes to seal the deal.
Rebounding and free throws were two keys to unlocking the win, Dreissig said. Rush City out rebounded East Central 40-21 and sank 10-14 free throws in the win.
