Poor shooting produces losses for NB

For Christmas the North Branch girls basketball team may want to ask for a better shooting percentage.
It was a frustrating week for the girls as they dropped two in a row and watched their record slip to 1-4. The common denominate in both games was poor shooting.
First, the Vikings lost to conference nemesis Spring Lake Park 55-41 on Dec. 5.
The girls got off to a quick start but were unable to take control of the game as it progressed. The girls had a hard time with the Panthers center who had 14 points.
"The girls really worked hard but we missed too many shots to get back in the game," head coach Dan Schindler said.
Kristen Robatcek led the team with 21 points and Gabrielle Olson dished out six assists.
"Robatcek had one of her best games of the year," Schindler said.
Next, the girls played Mahtomedi and surrendered 48-40.
The game was in reach but they made some crucial errors in the end that ultimately determined the game.
Down by four points with 30 seconds left in the game, the Vikings stole the ball and went the distance but missed the layup.
"That's just the way our season has gone so far," Schindler said.
Tiffany Good stepped up her game against Mahtomedi scoring 16 points which led the team. Olson chipped in eight points in the loss.
Again, rebounding was the problem for the short Vikings. Mahtomedi scored 16 points on second chance shot.
Despite the less than perfect start, Schindler remains positive that his girls will overcome this hump.
"The girls are working hard and it's certainly not because of lack of effort. It's still early and we will keep working. There are no easy nights anymore, so we need to get better to compete."
