Team play pays dividends against Fridley
By Steve Morris
The North Branch girls basketball fell to the inside, outside game of St. Louis Park by a score of 49-67 on Dec. 12 at home.
North Branch head coach Dan Schindler had the vexing problem of dealing with the multi-talented St. Louis Park team who punished the Vikings with a potent inside and outside game.
"We wanted to stop their inside game and started to do that, but they hurt us from outside hitting four three-points," Schindler said. "In the second half, when we adjusted to that, and they hurt us on the inside."
Kristen Robatcek led the team in scoring with 20 points. Randi Zentner pulled in eight rebounds in the losing effort.
"I felt the effort was there, we were just a little overmatched at times," Schindler said.
Mismatches were only a temporary problem for the girls. Against Fridley, they were the team giving the match up problems as they cruised past Fridley 48-36 on Dec. 15.
Zentner gave a powerful boost for the Vikings with 10 points and eight important rebounds.
Robatcek led the team in scoring with 18 points and tallied eight steals in the game.
"It was a nice team effort and it showed if we play basketball as a team, we can compete with anyone," Schindler said.
