Stacy works on no parking areas
By Anne Thom
A public hearing was held before the Nov. 28 Stacy City Council meeting to hear comment on establishing no parking areas along Stacy Trail from County Road 30 to the I-35.
The input was invited as this would necessitate changing the city code to adopt an ordinance establishing the no parking area.
The council discussed a number of options from no parking only on the south side which fronts mostly city businesses that have off-street parking areas to sections of no parking along both the north and the south side of Stacy Trail.
City Engineer Chuck Schwartz said from an engineer's perspective, the whole thing to be no parking. Councilman John Daher thought for simplicity, no parking zones on both the north and the south side should be identical, but he was not in favor of the entire stretch being posted as no parking.
Schwartz will work with a city map to identify residential property along this part of Stacy Trail that would be impacted as the city had no desire to make parking for those residents a hardship. The council will be adopting a revised no parking ordinance in the near future.
New Stacy City Council members and mayor will be sworn in Dec. 26 at 7 p.m. There will be a short city council meeting following that ceremony.
