What's ahead for Nessel Township?
TO THE EDITOR:
Now that the election is over and the new supervisors take charge in Nessel Township, will things be better or immensely more disorganized and less aware of road repairs and maintenance.
Will services that we have been accustomed to getting now become a wait and see item.
Helen Leier our clerk for the last four years has lost information, failed to respond to requests by residents and board members and not informed the board in a timely manner. But the latest has been the Arbor Hills fiasco; there was a $20,000 escrow for the warranty of the road project. Her failure to follow though after being sent a letter by the bank informing her and the board the escrow account is being terminated and asking if it needs extending. A phone call some time later from her to the bank informed her the escrow was no longer in effect due to the township failure to respond to the letter, and then to inform the board of the situation. But I am sure she can find someone else to blame like usual. The list could go on and on,
Oct. 10 the employee received a reprimand from the board which I can not say right or wrong, it was passed by the board. But the follow up as required by state law and the employee contract says the employee shall be given a copy of the reprimand to sign, and then a copy will be to the sent to the Union representing the employee and one be given to the employee. As of this date this has not been done, in fact after the dismissal fiasco no motion was made and passed to officially rehire the employee nor has most the agreement been met, so is he an employee or do we have someone there impersonating one?
It was recommended by the mediator the township create a definite policy as to what is required on the time sheets, have a meeting with the employee to explain what is expected, and procedures on how to fulfill them.ÝÝIt has been common practice in private companies each employee is given a policy manual to read and then he is required to sign that he has received and understands it.
Thanks to one resident, the board learned that if she or her friends do not benefit from "it" the township does not need it. For instance, for 30 + years the township has owned a pull type grader for all the residents to use now is not necessary, they don't need it; residents with long driveways need to find another way to care for them. I would understand this to mean the township does not need the motor grader, those on a tar road do not need their road graded, or a mower: some residents mow their own ditches so why do they need a township to own one. Two residents then recommended the township make available to the residents any of the equipment the employees are not using including trucks, loaders, grader or maybe even the shop.
Thankfully they come to the meetings to fill us in with their knowledge.
