Gypsy Jazz will come alive on PAC Stage with Clearwater Hot Club

Posted: 2/1/06

On Saturday night, Feb. 11, at 7:30 p.m, the spirit of Django Reinhardt will again be on the stage of the Richard Hardy Center at the Cambridge-Isanti High School. If you donít know who Django was, he was renowned as the best ìgypsy jazzî guitarist of all time, and performed in the 1930ís and 1940ís.

Clearwater Hot Club, composed of Sam Miltich playing lead guitar, will perform a variety of tunes in the style of music made famous by Django Reinhardt and Stefan Grappelli. This year, they will be bringing a great saxophone player to enhance music, and also a bass player and rhythm guitarist.

The group recently spent a week at a music festival in Japan, and, Matt Miltich, Samís dad and bass player, said, ìWe were treated like rock stars! It was just great, they had a great appreciation of the music.î

ìSam Miltich is one of the greatest guitar players Iíve ever seen,î says Roger Wm. Anderson, Chairman of the Performing Arts Committee. ìWeíre lucky to be able to have them come and play again for the Coffee House Series!î

Anderson stated that the Coffee House Series is designed for the audience to get close to the performers in a relaxed atmosphere. They sit close to the performer at the front of the performing arts center. ìItís a relaxed, enjoyable evening up close and personal with some talented performers.î stated Anderson.

Future performances scheduled by the Performing Arts Committee for the Coffee House Series include Kate McDonnell, a folksinger/guitarist from New York, Saturday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m., and Dave Potts, a singer/songwriter from Alabama at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 29.

Tickets, $10 each, can be purchased at Community Education, by calling (763) 689-6189, or they can be purchased at the door the evening of the events.
