Voice of Democracy essay winner attends banquet

The 7th District Veterans of Foreign Wars and the ladies Auxiliary hosted a Voice of Democracy banquet Friday, Jan. 6 at the Golden Valley V.F.W. Post.
The 29 students sponsored by 21 auxiliaries and posts were honored for being top winners in each of the local schools which they represented.
The theme of this yearís essay was, ìHow I Demonstrate My Freedom.î
Entrants are judged on their three to five-minute audio taped essay.
The competition was open to students in 9th through 12 grade.
Kortney Holbrook, a 9th-grade student at NBHS was chosen by the North Branch V.F.W. Post/Auxiliary #6424 to be honored at the banquet.
Her parents, Ralph and Candy Holbrook, along with V.F.W. Auxiliary Voice of Democracy chairperson Phyllis Lindberg, attended the banquet with Kortney.
At the banquet, each student was awarded a certificate of participation as well as a check.
Speakers for the evening were the first, second, third and fourth place winners reading their essays.
