In the up and down world of basketball, fortunes can turn on a dime. The Rush City boys are no exception to this rule.
Having lost to Aitkin on Jan. 27, after what head coach Gary Dreissig called a ìdisastrousî performance, the Tigers returned strong last week with a 74-67 win over Hinckley-Finlayson on Thursday.
This game was rarely in doubt for the Tigers, who combined stiff defense and offensive production to produce a 39-31 lead at the half. Sticking to the game plan insured the Tigers victory.
ìThe players did a good job of talking on defense, which has hurt us in the pastî said Dreissig after the game, adding, ìWe again worked very had on shutting down our opponents top scorer.î
Indeed, Hinckleyís Dan Schmitz was held to only 13 points on the night.
No less than three players for the Tigers finished in double digits against the Jaguars.
Jake Bosman had an incredible night with 22 points, nine rebounds, and seven steals. Teammate Zach Beck had a 17-point night, and also had nine rebounds in the game.
John Kirchberg rounded out the top three with 12 points, five rebounds, and a steal. Of note also was Jerred Nelson, who had nine rebounds and six assists for the game.
The good times may be over very soon for the Tigers. Following Tuesday nightís rematch against Onamia, they travel to Braham this Friday to take on the nationally renked Bombers. Their road work will continue into next week as well, when they travel to Maranatha to take on the Mustangs next Tuesday night.
