Home is good for the Tiger soul

By Patrick Tepoorten

The Rush City girlsí basketball team traveled to Hinckley-Finlayson last Tuesday, and while they were waking up from the long bus ride, the Jaguars opened up a 12-point lead. Despite good play from the Tigers bench, the trend would continue to the final buzzer and the Tigers would fall 71-44.

Two Rush City girls would end the game with double-digit scoring. Senior Bobbi Cort had the double-double, with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Becky Kemen had 11 points on the night and finished with four steals and three assists as well. Senior Kacie Vold had 10 boards.

ìWe did not come ready to play,î said coach Jeremy Albright following the loss. ìHinckley was ready to play and it showed.î

Someone once said, ìyou can never go home again,î proving once and for all that the author never played basketball. The Tigers returned home on Friday and brought their ìAî game with them.

Facing the Onamia Panthers, the Tigers went to the locker room at the half down by five. In the second half though, the Tigers rebounded big-time, overcame the deficit, and went on to win the game 40-36. Albright was happier with his gals after this game. ìWe definitely came out more ready to play than earlier in the week. We battled through some rough spots during the game to get the victory.î

Cort and Kemen finished the game with 15 and 16 points respectively, and Kemen had four steals while Cort had six rebounds. Other players of note include junior Amber Hoffman, who had seven points, and senior Jamie Prettner, who had four steals in the game.

The up and down week leaves the Tigers with a 6-10 overall record (5-5 in the conference).

Later this week, Rush City will travel to Braham to face the Bombers, before returning home next Monday to face Ogilvie.
