Activities director Leuer receives award

North Branch Area Public Schools Activities Director Becky Leuer received the Marie Berg Award from the Minnesota Coalition of Women in Athletic Leadership for her statewide contributions to promoting girls and women in sports.

Leuer was presented with the award at the Minnesota Girls and Women in Sports Day Celebration Feb. 1, at the State Capitol Rotunda.
The Marie Berg Award is one of the singular awards that is given to an individual who has been instrumental in breaking barriers as a physical education teacher, coach and leader.

The award is named in honor of Marie Berg who was a member of the Grand Meadow Girls Basketball teams that began the famous 94-game winning streak from 1929-1939.

Marie Berg later became the physical education teacher at Grand Meadow and was a leader in womenís sports and activities.
Marie Berg has since passed away and this award was established in her memory and to honor those who follow in her footsteps.
