Since its inception in 2000, the Pine Technical College Foundation has had almost 200 donors contribute to the vision of expanded opportunities for students at the College and for those who wish to become students. On Dec. 8, the Foundation held a special event to honor and recognize the donors who have made this possible.
The Foundation just completed its fifth ìBridging the Dreamî campaign. Donations collected during a campaign are given to students. This year, 30 full-time students received $700 scholarships and 17 part-time students received $250 scholarships. Since 2001, over 300 full-time scholarships have been awarded totaling $112,000 and 60 part-time scholarships have been awarded totaling $16,500.
In 2004, the Pine Technical College Foundation established an endowment campaign. The donations collected for the endowment go into a savings account and scholarships are paid to students from the earnings of the savings account. The savings are never touched or spent. The three-year goal is to raise a $250,000 endowment for lasting scholarships. To date, the Foundation has raised $180,000 and has awarded four $500 scholarships.
President Robert Musgrove said, ìThe individuals and companies that have donated to the Foundation deserve recognition. Because of less funding, tuition rates have increased year after year. Students need scholarships to afford college. The Foundation was created to get scholarships to students. But, it is the donors that make it all possible.î
Those who have donated $2,500 have reached the ìProfessorî level. Total contributions of $5,000 place the donor at the ìMentorî level. The ìPresidentís Circleî level donors have donated $10,000. ìVisionariesî have contributed $25,000.Donors were recognized at the event for the levels they have achieved.
The first Visionary award was given to Steve Schmidt of Pine City State Bank.
Other award recipients were Presidentís Circle members: Brenda Hage family, East Central Energy, Nexen Group, and John Schlagel; Mentors: Car/Truck City, Jim Gillespie, Lakeside Medical Center, Rock Creek Lions, US Bank, and Viking Coca-Cola; and Proffesors: American Legion Heath Perkins Post 51, AtScott Manufacturing Company, Bernick Companies, Coldwell Banker Results, Dan Conroy, First National Bank of Pine City, Haug Construction, Hinckley Lions Club, Kanabec State Bank, Kennedy Franchising, Robert Musgrove, Bill and Ericka Nelson, Ogilvie Lions, Pokegama Lake Association, Jane and Gerry Robbins, Siren Lions Club and Wyoming Machine.
